Lesson 1.2 - Notes on the Stave.

When drawing notes on the stave the main thing to remember for the purpose of examinations, (and for general practice) is that neatness is essential. In an examination marks will be lost for untidy work. With this in mind the following points should be noted.

Notes in spaces should fit exactly between the lines with no overlap

Notes on lines should have the line going through the middle of the note and occupy exactly half the spaces either side of the line.

The stems of high notes (above the middle line) go down on the left. The stems of low notes (below the middle line) go up on the right.

When drawing tails on the stems for quavers or semiquavers they always curve on the right hand side.
